INTERVIEW: Ginton

Few artists navigate the intersection of live instrumentation and electronic music as seamlessly as Ginton. A classically trained jazz guitarist turned chart-topping producer, his sound fuses intricate guitar work with dynamic electronic textures, earning him credits on records by Drake, Koffee, Gordo, and Wizkid. His breakthrough moment came with Drake’s Tie That Binds, where his evocative guitar lines became the emotional centerpiece of the track. Now, Ginton is stepping into the spotlight with his own project, balancing the raw energy of dance music with the organic warmth of his instrumental roots. His upcoming debut EP, set for September 2025, will feature a lineup of collaborators that solidify his place in the global electronic scene, including Francis Mercier, Alan Dixon, Sparrow & Barbossa. Before the EP arrives, Ginton is making waves with Solfa, a new collaboration with Francis Mercier, MoBlack, and vocalist Rindss on Cercle Records. The track explores the emotional resonance of sound frequencies, weaving together hypnotic melodies and deep, driving rhythms. In this interview, Ginton dives into his creative process, his approach to collaboration, and how he's carving out his own space as a solo artist ahead of his debut EP, The Garden. Let’s dive in!

Where are you in the world right now? What do you love about that place? What do you hate? What does your daily life look like over there?

Right now, I’m in my hometown, Amsterdam—a city that constantly inspires me. It’s where I feel most at home, surrounded by family and friends, which fuels my creativity and energy. There’s an undeniable magic in its atmosphere, from the buzzing music scene to its rich cultural history. If I had to name one downside, it would probably be the unpredictable weather!

Your upcoming track Solfa with Francis Mercier, MoBlack, and Rindss explores the connection between sound frequencies and human emotions. How did you approach this concept musically?

Creating Solfa with Francis Mercier, MoBlack, and Rindss was an incredible experience. Each of us brought our own unique energy and creativity, blending vibrant melodies and infectious rhythms into something truly special. The track is a celebration of sound, an uplifting journey that’s both soulful and danceable. I hope listeners feel that deep emotional connection and let the music move them, both physically and emotionally.

You’ve collaborated with major artists like Drake, Koffee, Gordo, and Wizkid. How does working on mainstream projects compare to crafting your own solo work?

When working with artists of that caliber, my main role is to complement and elevate their creative vision. Their artistic instincts and ability to push boundaries are next level, so my approach is about enhancing their sound while staying true to my own style.

On my solo projects, I take full creative control—every decision, from the concept to the sonic direction, comes from me. It’s a completely different dynamic, but both processes challenge and inspire me in unique ways.

You’re known for blending your signature guitar riffs with electronic beats. What inspired you to fuse these elements?

After years of playing guitar riffs and co-producing for other artists, I realized my sound had a unique energy that perfectly captured the uplifting, feel-good vibe I wanted to share.

Through experimenting with different productions, I saw firsthand how audiences reacted—both live and on social media. That validation confirmed that this fusion of guitar and electronic elements was the right path to take.

Your debut EP is dropping in September. What can you tell us about the vision behind the project?

This EP reflects my journey as a solo artist in ways I once only dreamed of. Titled The Garden, it invites listeners into my personal sanctuary—a space where they can feel at ease and experience music in its warmest, most vibrant form. It’s a deeply personal project filled with soulful collaborations, and I can’t wait for people to walk this path with me.

You’re launching your EP with your first hard-ticket show at Melkweg. How does preparing for a live performance differ from working in the studio?

Performing live is all about creating a shared experience with the audience. Unlike working in the studio, where I’m focused on crafting each detail in isolation, a live show is about capturing energy in the moment and taking the crowd on a sonic journey.

Fans can expect never-before-heard live versions of my tracks, special guest performances, and, of course, plenty of new music!

What are your go-to tools in the studio and on stage? Are there any VSTs, guitars, or hardware pieces you couldn’t live without?

Honestly, as long as I have my guitar, I can turn both the studio and the stage upside down.

What was the last track by another artist you were obsessed with? How did you discover it, and what drew you to it?

I recently came across DiDi by Jardin Du Son, Anton Khabbaz, and Dylan Lee, and it completely captivated me. It has this deep, melodic sound while still being uplifting and electrifying on the dance floor. It’s the kind of track that feels fresh every time you hear it—an absolute killer.

Thanks for doing this interview! What do you have coming up in the next few months?

I have some really exciting collaborations in the works, spanning from global superstars to Grammy-winning artists and incredible talents from across different continents.

I’m also gearing up for my first summer tour, where I’ll be visiting places I’ve never been before—can’t wait to share these experiences with everyone!
